Registration packages for the RAD examinations and presentations will be handed out to all ballet students in Primary to Grade 7 this week. The packages include the rehearsal schedule and fee structure. We are hoping that everyone who is interested will get their registration forms and fees in by December 21. If you have questions about the exams or about how to decide whether your dancer should pursue an exam or presentation, please speak to your dancer’s teacher this week. Please note that there will be rehearsal classes for Grade 2 to Grade 7 exam and presentation students during the week of January 4, the week before regularly scheduled classes resume.

COMPANY PERFORMANCES
Last weekend at the studio, the Junior and Senior Companies put on two fabulous performances of The Day the Toy Store Door Froze Shut. Dancing Cha Cha dolls, ballerinas and toy soldiers put us all in the spirit of the holidays. Well done Companies! Rather than charge admission, the Companies decided to request monetary donations to the Out of the Cold program  which provides Friday night dinner at Windermere United Church. Guest vocalist (and SSOD mom) Shakura S’Aida wowed us with her incredible voice and generously contributed the proceeds of sales of her CD at the performance to Out of the Cold. Together they raised $550 for Out of the Cold. Now that’s the Christmas spirit in action!

A HOLIDAY RECIPE

Hello!  I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Helland. I am a great friend of Miss Michelle’s, one of those crazy Company Blonde dancers and a holistic nutritionist. We have all heard how important it is to eat well. It is even more important for us dancers! We need to re-fuel our bodies to stay focused and energized throughout our dancing hours. Miss Michelle has invited me to come in the New Year and talk with the senior dancers about nutrition for dancers. I am really looking forward to this opportunity!

In the meantime, here is a recipe for a yummy (and dare I say nutritious) holiday treat the whole family can make!

Chocolate Snowballs

Ingredients

1 cup raw almonds

1/4 cup cocoa or carob powder

1/4 cup honey

1/3 cup almond butter

1 Tbsp. ground flax seeds

1/2 cup shredded coconut

Method

Blend almonds in food processor until ground.

Add cocoa or carob powder and pulse a few times.

Transfer to a bowl.

Add honey, almond butter and ground flax.  Stir until smooth and well combined.

Scoop out teaspoon portions and with roll mixture into balls with hands.

Coat with coconut.

These chocolate snowballs are high in protein, fibre, minerals and vitamins but you’d never know it because they taste so good!!!

I look forward to meeting you all in the New Year.  Happy Holidays!

Jennifer

RED SHOES DVDs

There are still a number of Red Shoes DVDs which were ordered but have not been paid for and picked up. They are at the studio – please speak to whoever is working on reception or your child’s teacher to pay for and pick up your DVD this week. What a great stocking stuffer!

INCOME TAX RECEIPTS
Income Tax receipts for 2009 class fees, March Break camp fees and Summer Camp fees will be emailed to everyone in late December or early January.

BOOTS and SHOES
Please do not wear boots and shoes down the stairs past the first landing and please keep the stairwell landing clear of boots and shoes (that’s a fire regulation). This applies to dancers and family members of dancers – everyone! Boots and shoes cause a big mess in the foyer and change room which the dancers step in with their dance shoes which then gets tracked into the studio. Boots and shoes other than dance shoes should never be worn in the studio as they scuff and dirty the floor.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
