CODE OF CONDUCT

At Swansea School of Dance, we strive to ensure that every dancer will dance, create and perform in an environment that is respectful, inspiring and nurturing.

Dancers show respect for themselves by:

  • being prompt for class and being prepared to dance at least 5 minutes before class time;
  • being dressed properly for class following the SSOD Dress Code and without jewelry;
  • having hair up off the neck – it must be in a bun for Ballet classes Pre-Primary and up and in a ponytail (if possible) for all other classes. Shorter hair must be pulled back off of face.

Dancers show respect for their classmates, teachers and the art form they are learning by:

  • being dressed properly and ready for class on time;
  • listening when the teacher speaks;
  • being prepared for their turn and waiting quietly for others to have a turn;
  • always asking before leaving the room for any reason and entering quietly;
  • always finishing every exercise, never walking off noisily or showing anger or aggravation.

Dancers show respect for the dance school by:

  •   leaving gum and food in the change room and ensuring all snacks are nut free;
  • never hanging or leaning on the barres;
  •   never running or behaving boisterously in the change room, waiting area or studio;
  •   putting garbage in its proper place and leaving all areas tidy;
  •   always keeping all belongings zipped in their dance bag or neatly stowed in a cubby.

Parents show respect for the dance class, teachers and dance school by:

  • knocking before entering the classroom if class is in progress;
  • standing away from the window if it becomes obvious that students are being distracted;
  • making sure child has visited the bathroom before entering class;
  • having students at class on time and picking them up promptly after class;
  • letting us know in advance of student absence by phone or email;
  • making arrangements with their child’s teacher to make up missed classes;
  • clearly labeling all of their child’s items with their name;
  • ensuring their children do not run or behave boisterously in the studio and waiting area.
